In the Spring 2025 Student Government Election, the race for Student Body Treasurer resulted in Lance Williams receiving 49.23% of the vote, Jon Carter receiving 28.80% and Emery Skolfield receiving 22.18%, with 31.72% of total voters abstaining. Due to no candidate reaching 50%, this race went into a runoff election, which took place on March 6 from 8 AM to 8 PM.
Zach Eddinger, Chair of the Student Government Board of Elections, shared that this marked the first time the Student Body Treasurer race had ever been contested.
The results were revealed at 9 PM the same day, with Eddinger first sharing the impressive turnout of over 1,000 voters. Lance Williams won the position with 60.39% of the vote to his opponent Jon Carter’s 39.60%.
The Nubian Message asked, “What do you think ultimately made voters choose you over your opponent, and how do you expect to use whatever [that] is in your upcoming term?”
Williams responded, saying, “I really think voters figured out that Treasury is not just writing budgets and giving out money. It really is a role that advocates on behalf of the student body with a financial twist to it, and I just don’t think my opponent really showed that they were willing to step up and do the advocacy part of the role. And that’s something I really pushed hard here in the runoff. And I look forward to just advocating for all of our organizations equally. As we see these attacks on DEI, we’re really going to have to fight back actively against that, and I look forward to doing that day one in office.”
