A federal judge in Boston ruled that Trump’s freeze on Harvard was illegal on Sept. 3, which ended the 2.2 billion dollar freeze on the oldest university in the country.
In her decision, U.S. District Judge Allison D. Burroughs said it was “difficult to conclude anything other than that [the Trump administration] used antisemitism as a smokescreen for a targeted, ideologically-motivated assault on this country’s premier universities, and did so in a way that runs afoul of [federal law].”
The 2.2 billion freeze halted more than 900 projects between Harvard and their allies. Within the freeze, it included funding for cancer research, prevention of Alzheimer’s and heart disease and more.
White House Spokesperson Liz Huston said, “We will immediately move to appeal this egregious decision, and we are confident we will ultimately prevail in our efforts to hold Harvard accountable.”
This is a developing story.
