Charlie Kirk, a Donald Trump supporter and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed on Wednesday afternoon. Kirk was at Utah Valley University for a political event, speaking to a crowd of over 1000 people. He was 31 years old.
Shortly past 2 p.m., a bullet hit Kirk in the neck, causing the crowd to scatter. He was quickly moved to Timpanogos Regional Hospital in critical condition, and died soon after at 31 years old.
When the shot went off, a video from the UVU Review social media showed Kirk collapsing in his chair as the crowd before him fled in a panic. Former Republican congressman Jason Chaffetz was in attendance, saying, “As soon as the shot went out, everybody hit the deck and everybody started scattering and yelling and screaming.”
Two suspects were apprehended, but released soon afterwards, having been presumed innocent. At the time of this article’s publication, the killer has not been identified.
Kirk is survived by his wife and child, along with Turning Point USA.
