Staff Report
On Tuesday, September 5, Chancellor Woodson released an official statement in response to the announcement by US Attorney General Jeff Sessions that the Trump administration will begin a “wind-down” of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
Also known as DACA, the signature Obama-era policy allows undocumented immigrants who emigrated to the US as children to apply for a renewable delay of deportation, during which they can obtain work permits.
Woodson acknowledged that the announcement “has generated great concern among many across our nation, including in our NC State community.”
While is is unclear how Congress will respond, Woodson said that “NC State administration will continue to work with UNC System General Administration, the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities, and elected officials to encourage support for DACA students going forward.”
NC State has not changed any of its policies and, according to Woodson, “will continue to support all DACA students to the fullest extent possible.”
Woodson encourages students to utilize the Counseling Center and Student Legal Services for mental health and legal support. Students should contact University Police or the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity if they witness any intimidation, harassment or violence.
